Web Design

Using Visual Studio Code and writing in HTML, CSS and some JS I created the websites below. Throughout most of my designs I tried to use as much of my own photography and in the horror theme as I knew I could execute this well. However, I did step out of my comfort zone for some of the more serious sites which was incredibly valuable for me to stretch my skill set and make me become a well-rounded designer. These sites really pushed my programming to the next level and I think you can see how all of the skills came together to create a beautiful game for my last project.

Unlocked - Apocalypse

In a group, we had to launch a new music festival in 2022. The festival needed to include a number of different stages, each of these focussing on one specific music genre. We had to create the festival name, brand, music and location. Individually we did extensive research on festivals so we each could make educated decision on the designing process. Alongside this website we had to create a brand identity, log our work progress through Trello boards to maintain order and create a launch campaign including multiple deliverables. As a group we chose ‘unlocked’ as it was a festival coming out of lockdown and I wanted to do an apocalypse style stage. In the accompanying video I show my pages I made for the festival which were all coded in Visual Studio Code. Alongside this website, I also drew wireframes and designed how the app would look on a mobile as an extra deliverable.

Silverlake

Silverlake is a family adventure theme park that has been built in the Yorkshire region. The exact theme of the park was for me to decide as were the names and nature of the rides. I needed to create a small website to advertise the themepark that would work on laptops and also on mobiles. Again I researched themeparks, sketched and drew wireframes in XD and then coded my final website. I went for a horror park as I knew I could use my own photography to decorate the site making it super original.

Wrangle Platinum Jubilee

This was the first project where I have worked with a client so it was a completely new and interesting experience. I was approached by a client who wanted a website for the village celebration they were organising for the Queens Platinum Jubilee. This involved many consultations to find out their requirements, check the copy I wrote was fitting for their event and source visual materials. This was challenging as the event had only been thrown once before in 2012 so finding the assets proved to be challenging and eventually ended up in a lot of Facebook stalking to seek people who might have personal photos to share. I went away from the client and researched similar events and potential colour schemes to present them to get a feel for their vision. When the designs were approved, I turned to coding and as this website needed to be fully responsive, so I followed mobile first principles.

Interactive Media Design

Education Leeds wished to create a new campaign to revitalize the National Curriculum for children across the Key Stage 1-3 age groups in the subject of Science. They commissioned me to create an interactive learning tool supporting a Science subject area in one of the Key Stage age groups. The interactive needed to work on a tablet device and also on the Education Leeds website. I chose to do a game based on plants for Key Stage 2. The game needed to be engaging, easy to use and accessible. I started by taking to my mum as she works with children with special needs, to find out what learning material she uses as they would show the best practices for accessibility.  I then planned a story line as I felt games with more of a plot keep kids captivated longer. After sketching some designs I tested the prototype to see how easy it was to navigate. Based on this feedback, I reworked my designs, created the graphics in Illustrator and then began programming. I love the look of my game as its colourful and whimsical but its also not too crowed and overwhelming. Im super proud of this project.
