3D Animation

Using Cinema 4D to create all the animations below, I’ve developed skills in 3D modelling, texturing, lighting and rendering in just under two years. As you meander through the videos, you will see my knowledge of Cinema 4D expand and me become more comfortable using it. This module has quickly become my favourite due to how flexible and easy to use the software is, allowing me to expand my creativity and imagination to design anything I want. This freedom makes learning the ins and outs rewarding as the finished project looks professional and beautiful at the same time.

Personalised headphones

In this task I had the model and texture a standard pair of headphones. The intricate details were really important and I wanted to leave my mark on the product. Every texture needed to match existing headphones, so this involved a lot of research and trial and error. To go the extra mile, I taught myself how to bevel my initials into the headphones to make them unique and personalised.

Ad Campaign

Here I responded to a commercial brief where I was asked to model, texture and light a chair. Before diving straight in, I researched existing 3D commercials from other companies and also my client to ensure my ad would really represent their product and mapped out the key features that needed to be highlighted in the video. I then model the item, adding texture and lighting. To grasp the realism of the item, it has to be proportional to look realistic in the virtual space which involved a lot of measuring and precise modelling.

ITV3 Idents

Using a range of 3D modelling and animation techniques, I developed a high-quality series of hypothetical ‘idents’ for ITV3 which incorporated a number of different visual elements. This required me to research the existing visual style of the client and their audience and make my idents fit the brand. This research allowed me to create a storyboard that was then developed into style frames which were used in an animatic to get a full feel for the piece. The idents followed an original, coherent visual style in order to build familiarity and brand awareness. I then began designing my animations in Cinema 4D. This project was incredibly challenging and involved learning new animation techniques and the intimate details of texturing.

Subscriber Celebration

I was tasked to present a deck to my team on the YT channel that I run for Cartoon Network GameBox. To push myself I wanted to include a 3D animation to show how many subscribers the account had. I had never designed a person before with working mechanics, so this was such an interesting and challenging goal I set. I'm incredibly pleased with this animation and appreciate all the new skills it has taught me.
